We run all our surgeries by an appointment-only system.
We try to make sure you see the doctor of your choice but if they are not available we may ask you to see another doctor.
Making an appointment
We offer telephone and face-to-face appointments, which can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance. We do keep some appointments for urgent ‘on the day’ problems and although it is preferable to contact us as early as possible for an appointment that day ‘non urgent’ appointment bookings can be taken at anytime during opening hours. Please give the administrator as much information as possible so that our GPs can can prioritise their calls.
Phone appointments
If you need to talk to a doctor or nurse by telephone this is possible. Simply request a telephone call.
Telephone appointments are a convenient alternative for those problems that do not necessarily require a face-to-face consultation, such as minor ailments, prescription queries or concerns about test results.
Please make it clear to the administrator if you need an urgent call.
Extended hours (Alternate Wednesday evenings until 8.00pm)
These appointments are reserved for those patients who have difficulty attending the surgery during normal opening hours (for example, due to working far away). We do also have a nurse on duty so if you need your appointment outside of normal working hours this can be arranged.
Home visits
If you are too ill to come to the surgery and you require a visit at home, please call the surgery before 11.00am. Home visits take up more of a doctor’s time than a consultation in the surgery, so if you are mobile please come into the surgery to be seen.
You need to register to use our online appointment booking service and this is best done in person at the surgery. Please speak to one of our administration team.
Weekend Access
We may also offer you an appointment on Saturdays at Leatside Surgery, Totnes or Albany Surgery, Newton Abbot. You may see a GP from our practice or another surgery as this is the Primary Care Network Extended Access service. The doctors and nurses, however, do have access to your medical records (with your consent) so can consult with you safely.
Cancelling your appointment
Patients do occasionally miss appointments and as we run 15 minute consultations this can be frustrating. If you feel that you no longer need to see a doctor or nurse or are unable to make an appointment, then please let us know however near to the appointment it may be, so that the slot can be allocated to another patient.
