Having previously worked as a Health Care Assistant at Torbay Hospital I decided to pursue my dreams of becoming a nurse as a mature student whilst bring up my two daughters.
I graduated with a 1st class Hons Degree in Adult Nursing from Plymouth University in 2015 and during my 3 year course I gained valuable experience in a range of healthcare settings including oncology, gastroenterology, theatres and district nursing. Having qualified as a registered nurse I immediately joined the Cancer Care Team at Torbay Hospital. I then moved into a specialist palliative care role within the community working with Marie Curie and later Rowcroft Hospice.
Throughout my training I had always been keenly interested in Primary Care and I joined a GP practice in Torquay where I completed further training in respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD. Earlier this year I had the opportunity to join Catherine House Surgery and I jumped at the chance, not only because it has a great reputation, but it is also my hometown of Totnes.
In my day-to-day role as a Practice Nurse at Catherine House Surgery I enjoy the variety of different cases I see each day and areas of special interest include not only respiratory disease management but women’s health, wound management, childhood immunisations and travel consultation.
